Winter in Montana

This collection is an exploration of the wildlife and winter landscapes of Montana and Yellowstone National Park.

My work focuses primarily on the animals that inhabit these places—wolves, bison, ravens, and other wildlife—but just as much on the landscapes they call home. The photographs move between intimate moments with individual animals and the vast, often unforgiving environments that shape their lives.

Wolves are at the center of much of my work. I’m drawn to their complex social lives, their resilience, and the narrow margins in which they survive. But photographing Yellowstone has taught me that the landscape itself is often as important as the animal within it. A wolf moving through a snow-covered valley, a bison enduring a winter storm, or a raven perched against an otherwise empty landscape can reveal something about the relationship between an animal and the place that sustains it.
