Making a living in the wild is hard work but somehow, wolves make it seem effortless. Humanity shy’s away from such scenes but to me, as an artist and photographer of the wild world, this is what I gravitate towards. The unfettered and unpredictable wild lives of wolves.

Story behind the shot:
We’d heard there was a possibility that there might be a carcass in the interior of Yellowstone the following day as wolves had been actively hunting a bison.
The next morning started before sunrise and as we made our way in on the last minute snow coach we booked the night before. The uncertainty of the day ahead made it all the more exciting.
We arrived and there was the carcass. Right on the side of the river. It still had a decent amount of meat left on it so we were all cautiously optimistic.
30 minutes later, a chorus howl came from behind the trees. We couldn’t see the wolves, but we could hear them.
A step in the right direction.
Little did we know, we’d meet six individual wolves this day. As usual, the ravens were unrelenting in the pursuit of a meal and he just wasn’t having it. He lunged, I laid on my shutter and captured this image.
To me, this is nature in its rawest, truest most natural form.
